Loong

Loong is a short film animation that tells the story of the Chinese dragon myth and its origin in Chinese culture through the story of a child.

The objective of this project is to dispel the stereotypes of Chinese dragons among Westerners, and after watching this project, the audience will learn about the birth of Chinese dragons, the meaning of Chinese dragons in Chinese people, the influence of Chinese dragons in real life (buildings, festivals, and events), and witness the growth of a young boy who has lost himself.

For a long period of Western history, dragons were frequently portrayed as evil and destructive. This has led to a misinterpretation and damaged the image of dragons as destructive and hurtful creatures. This leads Westerners to easily and wrongly believe that Chinese dragons are also evil beings throughout history. The reality is that dragons also exist in Chinese culture and are entirely different creatures, yet they are both translated as dragons in English translation.  Another English translation of Chinese dragon is Loong.  But in Chinese culture and in many Asian countries, the dragon is not bad. It is a symbol of power, nobility, and honor and also represents a sign of luck and success. I hope that this project to contribute to the knowledge and expansion of a historical and fun element of my culture.
