Good Meal
Problem: Food insecurity is defined by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as having “limited or uncertain access to nutritious, safe foods necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle”.
College students lack the funds, time and motivation to consume or prepare healthy meals. According research conducted by Hunter College, “25 percent of CUNY undergraduates experience food insecurity.” This can impact students’ mental health and academic performance in a negative way.
Solution: Based on their College enrollment and financial status, students will apply on the Good Meal app to receive free meals from participating restaurants in New York City. Eligible students will be able to redeem one free meal per day.
Local NYC restaurants who are willing to offer free meals to students will be able to receive $10.00 in tax credit for every 10 meals donates per month.
